I have over 270,000 miles on my 2002 Pontiac Aztek and over the years and miles the refrigerant has gradually escaped. I have charged many cars back in the "old days" of R-12, but I seldom work on cars anymore and I have never charged a system that uses R-134a until now.

It is very easy to use, even for someone who knows little about cars. This will work on any vehicle that uses R-134a, it will NOT work on older vehicles that use R-12. I appreciate the long braided hose as the service port is tough to get to and located between the front exhaust manifold (hot) and the fan (moving). If you have such a vehicle I suggest putting the hose on and taking it off with the engine not running (although you must have the engine running and air conditioning on in order to charge it).

One thing I should note: If your low side service port is on a suction accumulator (aluminum tank near the firewall), you should not have a problem. However, if your low side service port is on the suction line feeding directly into the compressor (like mine) I suggest keeping the can upright whenever the trigger is pulled. Shake the can vigorously before connecting and shake it while charging.

My air conditioning works like new again!

Tried it on my 2009 Ford F150 - gauge didn't work at first but didn't know it at the time - once the gauge started working, I had already overcharged the AC. Had to take it to a mechanic to fix it - he had to remove 3 ounces of freon. Had plenty left in the can so I decided to try it on my 2003 Nissan Altima - Worked GREAT. Coolest air in that vehicle since we purchased it. I would recommend the product but I would also make sure the gauge worked. It was very simple to do and very pleased at the cold air it provided IMMEDIATELY in the Nissan Altima. It even cools now when sitting still which it hasn't done in years. Give it a try.

Comments about AC Pro Professional Formula Refrigerant with Gauge and Hose (20 oz.):

While this didn't solve my A/C problem, it certainly provided me with very specific, easy to understand instructions to 'test' my system personally. Looks like I probably have a compressor issue based on the information that the easy to read instructions provided. However, if I had only needed a charge, this would have been done like the label says in less than 10 minutes. Finding solutions like this one that are quick, easy and made of quality materials is always a plus when you are trying to save some money and do it yourself!

Comments about AC Pro Professional Formula Refrigerant with Gauge and Hose (20 oz.):

This product was expensive, difficult to use meter, and would not feed in my Jeep TJ. I ended up going to the pros and paid $55.00 and the jobs done! I wish I had done this in the first place. On the other hand I did use the can I bought in my Father-in-Laws 07 F-150.

There are times when the manufacturer does not provide all of the information a customer may require. In this case, even A/C pro does not have this information listed. I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer directly at 888-318-5454 and they would be in a better position to help you.

After I am satisfied that the system is properly charged is it best to turn off the AC prior to removing the fitting or remove it with the AC on and running? Does the engine need to be turned off?

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Hi Robert, happy to help you! System is charged when the gauge needle reaches inside the red "V" area marked on the lens. Frequently check the air blowing out of the dashboard vent. Continue this process until the system is fully charged (PSI in GREEN zone) or can is empty. It is possible that the can will not be empty when finished. In this case, after disconnecting from vehicle simply leave the recharge hose on the can and store in a cool dry location. If the can is empty, hold upside down for one minute to dispense any remaining product, disconnect from vehicle and simply unscrew the can and discard. The recharge hose may be used again with another can of A/C Pro refrigerant or any R-134a can with a threaded cap. Replace the plastic cap you removed from port. A:

No, Trish, you will need 30 oz refrigerant to fill your 1.9 lbs system. Therefore, you will need to buy two of this AC Pro Professional Formula Refrigerant with Gauge and Hose (20 oz.) (Part No. ACP-100N/ACP-10) container to fill your system.

              • Q:

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. I have had the engine replaced, and if I remember correctly, the mechanic told me he had to empty the refrigerant to make the change. If that is so, can this product be used or is there any chance that if I add this, it will mix with any other refrigerant and cause a problem? I do not have any ac at this time. I had my car engine replaced in the winter so I have not thought about the need until I entered the Georgia summer heat!

                Thanks!

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Hi Angel! If the refrigeration circuit seems to be working (refrigerant in the system, compressor running and building pressure), but there is still no cooling, the problem might be an obstruction in the orifice tube (located in the high pressure hose between the condenser in the front of the radiator, and the evaporator located in the passenger compartment). A blockage here will prevent the refrigerant from entering the evaporator or recirculating through the refrigeration circuit. If the orifice tube is plugged, the high side pressure reading will be lower than normal, and the low side reading will also be lower than normal because no refrigerant is circulating through the system. If the refrigeration circuit seems to be functioning normally (compressor running, frost or condensation on the high pressure line from the condenser to the evaporator), but no cool air is blowing out of the ducts inside the car (and the blower is working), the fault is likely a BLEND AIR door that is stuck in the HEAT position, or possibly a badly clogged cabin air filter that is restricting airflow. Another possibility would be a fault in the automatic climate control system such as a ad interior temperature sensor or control module. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
