I have over 270,000 miles on my 2002 Pontiac Aztek and over the years and miles the refrigerant has gradually escaped. I have charged many cars back in the "old days" of R-12, but I seldom work on cars anymore and I have never charged a system that uses R-134a until now.

It is very easy to use, even for someone who knows little about cars. This will work on any vehicle that uses R-134a, it will NOT work on older vehicles that use R-12. I appreciate the long braided hose as the service port is tough to get to and located between the front exhaust manifold (hot) and the fan (moving). If you have such a vehicle I suggest putting the hose on and taking it off with the engine not running (although you must have the engine running and air conditioning on in order to charge it).

One thing I should note: If your low side service port is on a suction accumulator (aluminum tank near the firewall), you should not have a problem. However, if your low side service port is on the suction line feeding directly into the compressor (like mine) I suggest keeping the can upright whenever the trigger is pulled. Shake the can vigorously before connecting and shake it while charging.

My air conditioning works like new again!

Tried it on my 2009 Ford F150 - gauge didn't work at first but didn't know it at the time - once the gauge started working, I had already overcharged the AC. Had to take it to a mechanic to fix it - he had to remove 3 ounces of freon. Had plenty left in the can so I decided to try it on my 2003 Nissan Altima - Worked GREAT. Coolest air in that vehicle since we purchased it. I would recommend the product but I would also make sure the gauge worked. It was very simple to do and very pleased at the cold air it provided IMMEDIATELY in the Nissan Altima. It even cools now when sitting still which it hasn't done in years. Give it a try.

Comments about AC Pro Professional Formula Refrigerant with Gauge and Hose (20 oz.):

I used it on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma which I bought used about 12 years ago. This summer for the first time the A/C was not cooling enough when the temperature gets above 80F. Looking for something simple and easy to recharge the system and found the A/C Pro which comes with everything you need for the job. And it is easy to use. The procedures are very simple too. When charging the system make sure you don't squeeze and hold the trigger on the can for too long. You need to release the trigger to check the pressure frequently. If you don't you might overcharge your system.

Find out the low side pressure for a given RPM for your specific vehicle and do not go by the area on the gauge based on the temperature. If you ruin your compressor due to overcharging you will have spent a lot more then taking it to a professional in the first place.

I recharged my Toyota Rav4 AC and then the compressor stopped working. I eventually took it to a service place and they said air in the AC system was the problem. So in the recharge, the air in the system became a problem. So I had to have the AC evacuated and then refilled. Now it works but this product was essentially a waste. Advance did refund my amount and the AC service was only $60 so it would have been better just to have gone that route. Price of doing it myself vs someone else was not significant.

YouTube and the company web site made finding the correct orifice easy. As one guy said you can't go wrong because there is only one orifice the hose will fit under the entire hood area. I was surprised to be done in the advertised time of 10 minutes or less and when I got back into my pick-up it was just like a refrigerator. Nice easy fix and the rebate made it even sweeter. If you are going to do this than I suggest you wear gloves. I did not and the can gets really cold real fast once you start the filling process.

I used this on a 1994 Trans Am that was low on refrigerant. As I started to fill, the compressor kicked on until the gauge hit 100%. The compressor stopped working and the car doesn't cool. What did I do wrong and how do I go about fixing it? Did I overfill it?

                          A:

Hi CC! The symptoms of an overcharged A/C system are exactly the same as a system that is undercharged: warm air out of the vents. However, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it, nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
