Advance Auto Parts Releases Information Regarding Payment Card Skimming Incident at Two Stores in Miami, Florida

ROANOKE, Va., October 19, 2012 – Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP) released information today regarding the Company discovering that it may have been the victim of a payment card skimming incident. The investigation by Advance Auto Parts revealed that data from two of its stores in Miami, Florida may have been affected, potentially compromising the payment card data of 491 customers. Advance has been cooperating with law enforcement authorities who have been investigating this incident. The following two (2) Advance Auto Parts stores were the only Advance stores affected by this incident:

Advance has no evidence that any customers’ payment cards have been misused as a result of this incident; nevertheless, Advance has notified its payment card processors. As an additional precautionary measure, the Company is sending letters to potentially affected customers whom it has been able to identify. Customers who recently purchased products in the listed stores, and who do not receive a letter, may call the toll-free number listed below to determine if their payment card may have been affected by this incident.

Advance is also working with the appropriate law enforcement officials who are conducting an investigation of this incident in an effort to charge the perpetrators. Advance continually partners with leading experts to help protect its customer and company information.


Effective immediately:

  1. Advance has provided information on its web site at www.AdvanceAutoParts.com for the 491 Miami-area customers whose payment card data may have been affected.
  2. Advance has established a special toll-free hotline for potentially affected customers to call to determine if their payment card is among the 491 affected by this incident. The hotline number is 877-300-5607 and will be available through December 31, 2012.
  3. Advance has arranged to help the 491 affected customers protect their credit information by offering these customers free credit monitoring from a national credit reporting agency for one year. This product allows affected customers to monitor their financial information from all three national credit reporting agencies.
