Rain X will not allow the glue to get sucked in how it normally would due to capillary action or maybe even from the plunger pushing it in. Rain X will weaken the bond a bunch if you manage to get some in. Get it professionally done if you use or have used rain x, even the washer fluid. Some places have stuff to make it break rain x's bond. The alcohol pad WON'T do it! You can buy stuff for it online but its not cheap.

If you dont touch the sticky part of the double stick tape with your finger as you peel it and wipe the plastic T before you stick it they will hold very well.

My windshield had the rain x issue but still got in to some spots. No idea how those will do yet.

I am very detailed about the work I do. I had a very small bullseye on my windshield right in my field of vision so I decided to give this a try instead of spending 40 to 60 dollars on a repair service. I watched the video for this product and followed the included instructions precisely. It all seemed to be going fine until I came to the part where you put a little positive pressure on the repair by pushing the plunger down to its' middle lock position. It was working for about 2 minutes(you're supposed to leave it that way for 10 minutes) when all of a sudden, it blew out at the bottom where the base is glued to the windshield and sprayed the repair adhesive all over the place. I had no choice but to leave it alone for the required time and continue with the repair and see what happened. After it cured in the sun and I cleaned up the mess, all this junk did was fill the surface of the chip with the acrylic adhesive and did not penetrate into the glass at all. Stone chip still as annoying as ever and I probably cannot at this point, get it repaired professionally because of the acrylic stuck in the chip. The stick-on adhesive that is used to hold the base temporarily, to the windshield, is obviously not strong enough for the task(yes, I did clean properly with the alcohol pad prior to mounting it). This product is pure trash. I will contact Permatex regarding this.

Your 3M product failed me. Unlike this product, it used pressure to force in the apoxy. It caused additional cracking in my windshield when used. I was really mad! U need to remove it from your shelves, this product is MUCH better.

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

I suggest watching the short, informative YouTube instruction video beforehand. Also, have some Isopropyl alcohol and two cotton rags handy as the tiny alcohol swab included in the kit is insufficient. And don't forget to chisel out all the tiny broken glass shards from the impact point. Do all of your prep work on another surface and NOT the hood of your vehicle as the resin is very detrimental to paint finish. This product works as advertised and comes highly recommended. One final note: the end results are about 95% cosmetically effective on a chipped bullseye of approximately 1 inch diameter.

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

The online video was not totally consistent with the instructions (i.e green side of pad on windshield and white for the suction support). but overall easy to apply. My damage included a .25 dia chip which the glue filled but I expect it to chip out at some point. The cracks were reduced in size but are still visible upon close observation, measuring about .1 in on two sides from center. Would have liked to do more than one application with the kit, but alas only enough glue and pad for one.

I have paid for two seperate windshield repairs from a professional repair shop at over $60 each. When my windshield was chipped yet again on my wife's car, I looked online to see if there was a DIY option out there. I purchased this product at Advance Auto, followed instructions online, and made the repair myself. Could not be more pleased with the results. I will add that I watched the instructions carefully several times before attempting to make the repair. Total repair time start to finish was less than 1 hour including the drive to Advance Auto.

I've use two kinds of windshield repair kits. With this type you put a vacuum on the crack with a syringe and then use the same syringe to pressurize the resin to force it into the crack. The older type has the resin in the syringe and you "pump" the syringe to fill the crack with resin.

The older type is much better. This type has unclear instructions and multiple waiting periods some in the sun and some in the shade. It is also messier.

NO. It is a thin acrylic that seeps into the crack, hardens and prevents the crack from spreading. You have to buy a new windshield. It's a fact of life.
