I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with an automatic transmission. I have a check engine light on and when I got it diagnosed I was told I needed a new vehicle speed sensor but then found out that there is an input and an output sensor. How do I know which one to buy and have replaced? I really don't know anything about cars and I can't have my car inspected until I get this fixed. Yes, the problem seems to be with your Speed Sensor. A common symptom of a bad speed sensor is that your car will seem unable to pick a gear. It may shudder or jerk and seemingly skip gears upon acceleration and deceleration. Replacing this sensor would rectify the problem.Answered on 2/16/2012 by John the Car-Doc from AAP

You need to remove the air cleaner box assembly and then take the shift cables off the trans and the input sensor is mounted below the cables. If the car is shifting ODD, it is not recommended to drive it much.Answered on 12/6/2011 by DIY Daniel from AAP
