Dirt and even rust can enter the fuel stream at any point along the long journey from refinery to your vehicle’s fuel tank. So, your fuel filter becomes the final line of defense against damaging contaminants getting into your vehicle. Clean fuel, free from dirt particles and rust, is essential for the smooth and efficient operation of your vehicle. A tiny grain of dirt can clog injectors, leading to erratic performance and poor gas mileage. Clean fuel increases gas mileage and improves engine performance - and with the fluctuating cost of gas these days, that’s really important!

  • Defense against damaging contaminants
  • Increases gas mileage

My first one worked flawlessly for 4 years and approximately 40k miles. I installed one today as part of preventative maintenance.

Make sure when you purchase it THAT IT COMES WITH THE PROPER CLIPS. Don't do like I did and purchase a filter, store it for 2 years, then lose the clips. Poor decision.

On a related note, Advance Auto also sells replacement clips! Doorman part numbers 800-005 and 800-006. I think 800-026 includes 3 each 5/16" and 3/8" clips.

Both the filters I purchased had the flow arrow pointed in the correct direction. Also, I've reused the factory bracket twice. The bracket was held onto my 4-cyl S10 by a 1/2" bolt.

It took me a minute to figure out the clips. Turns out fingers and maybe a flat head screwdriver was all I needed. Having my truck on a lift certainly didn't hurt either!

This product did work on my 1998 Saturn SL2, but not without much confusion. The existing part on the car had a bracket holding the filter that was similar in concept to the new one, but the design was completely different. I removed the brackets from both filters and the old one did fit on the new filter. When going to install it the connecting tubes on the new filter are all shorter than the old filter. Not only that, the front section no longer has a long enough tube for the connector to fasten when the line clip that went from the car to the old clip was used. I went to the store and verified that I didn't just get the wrong part. The hoses are long enough to reach if you work at it and the connector will attach as long as you don't use the clip that worked on the Old filter. Just push it asside and let it hang underneath the car.

        Comments about Purolator Fuel Filter:

I had to replace my fuel filter last summer, so I went with this filter, but I just had to replace my fuel filter again, which was less than 6 months after buying this filter.

The Saturn fuel filters for the 1998-2002 cars have the fuel pressure regulator inside the filter. I highly recommend searching on this website for "Fuel pressure regulator" and use part #24134. The name of that item is "BWD fuel press regulator" but it's also a fuel filter.

That one is over twice as much money as this filter, but it's well worth the price because it'll last a lot longer than this one.

2001 Saturn SL1: The bracket that comes on the filter is not the same as the oem. You can be careful and re-use the old bracket if you don't break off the rusted screws that hold it on. I broke mine off and just wedged the new bracket in the small space. Just be careful of the break lines.

        Comments about Purolator Fuel Filter:

The mounting bracket that is attached to the fuel filter is not the same as the one attached to the factory filter. The mounting holes are in different positions entirely and I found it easier to remove the old mounting bracket from the original fuel filter and install it on the new one before installing it onto the car. It wasn't too difficult to do, just a few whacks with a hammer while the filter in placed in a vise to hold it steady, but the point is that it is listed as an "Exact Fit". I wouldnt call any part that you have to modify before it can be installed, an "Exact Fit". Other than that, everything else snapped into place as it should. Also, the price is good. Overall it is a nice product, even if the description is a little misleading.

The filter was a perfect match for the 1999 Saturn S-series 1.9l. The bracket that came with it was removed since it did not match the existing one. If you are removing the bracket, please be very careful an patient as you lightly tap it off the filter.

Apparently does the job filtering, but as other reviews have noted, the bracket supplied is not a universal substitute and will not work with Saturns (the brackets on Saturns have a tendency for the bolts to rust fast and get broken, rendering any bracket unusable). The flow was also marked erroneously reversed on my unit, but installed the way the existing unit was in my car (with two lines in back and one in front, there's not any option for screw-up), it appears to work fine. For the price paid, one would hope for a better bracket and less confusion.

You may need to purchase a special tool to remove the filter on newer vehicles. It is very cheap but makes it very easy to remove the filter. On older vehicles you only need a pair of pliers or fuel line boxed end wrench. Depends on the vehicle.

I need to know if this filter has the fuel pressure regulator in it. The 1999 Saturn SC2's pressure regulators are in the filters. Some of these filters say the pressure regulator is included and others don't say.

Are there parts that should be purchased with this filter? After taking off the old filter, the replacement part was different. Should this part have come with gaskets? Thank you for your response.

This could be the problem you are having. If the fuel filter is clogged and not letting enough fuel through, it could be starving the engine of fuel and not letting it start.

This unit contains an integrated fuel pressure regulator as well. At what pressure (PSI) is the regulator set? Is the pressure adjustable?
