Careful when ordering a O2 sensor for a Toyota Avalon.

The Avalon uses 2 types of sensors:

"Upstream" for before the cat. converter
"Downstream" for after the cat. converter

This web site makes no distinction whether this sensor would be used for upstream of downstream, I've found that other sites do; this sensor is DOWNSTREAM ONLY.

On my vehicle I had 2 upstream (pre cat.) sensors under the hood; one attached to each of the exhaust manifolds. There was another sensor in the exhaust pipe just after the cat. converter (downstream).

I was replacing one of the upstream sensors under the hood to fix a p0135 error code in my vehicle. When visiting this web page, I bought this Bosch universal because of the price. After installing it I found that the error did not go away. After some further research, I found that the upstream sensors that are before the cat. converter are actually referred to as "air/fuel" sensors, while only the downstream sensor after the cat. is still referred to as the "oxygen" sensor. These sensors are different, and do send different signals back to the ECU.

Basically, for the upstream sensor, make sure you find something that is a direct match for Toyota's part 8946741030, and this Bosch IS NOT IT. The more expensive ones are, such as the Denso for $169.

It's not that difficult to do the SmartLink for attaching the new sensor wires to the old connector but the printed instructions are not that clear. Please, go first to the Bosch website and take a look at the video that's self explanatory and will save you some time. Do the following search:

I replaced both O2 sensors on my 2003 Toyota Corolla. The installation went as expected, it took a little over an hour to replace each one, with the wiring part taking about 20 minutes, after doing the first one the second one went a little faster. I'm far from a mechanic so the detailed instructions were very helpful and I didn't have any problems following along. Pay attention to the pattern of the wires as you thread them into the cap and body of the wiring harness, the instructions are backwards there.

Order an OEM exact match ('02 toyota 3L V6 in my case), cutting and splicing this piece of dung takes too much time even if it worked... I my case the engine light came back on after install & reset. Took the "smartlink conector" back apart & found no problems, crossed the 2 heater wires hoping this would resolve but no change. The only thing smart about this design is that since I cut the darn thing I can't take it back. Run the other way if anyone tries to sell this to you!!!!!! I would only recommend to an enemy.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima, I need to replace oxygen sensor bank 1, sensor 2. Because this is a 4 cylinder 2.5 L , is it the sensor on the outlet of the cat in the exhaust manifold area? also, it looks as though the wire is molded to the sensor, so splicing is required, and wire length critical?

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

The check engine light comes on every now or then in my 02 mazda 626lx 4cyl and I was wondering os it because my starter might be going out or the oxygen sensor.

With out the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
