Fit fine on my 2004 Ford F150 4.6L Truck, seems to work flawlessly. I wish it came with replacement fuel clips in case they break when removing the old one. Mine did and I had to make another trip to Advance to get the Dorman fuel retaining clips.

    Not all in box.

I feel there should have been replacement clamps for the up-scale cost. Should have been basic directions. As a Gov. purchasing manager will not allow purchase and go for less costly brand.

Comments about Motorcraft Original Equipment (OE) Fuel Filter:

My previous Motorcraft Fuel Filter was due for a change, so I decided to replace it again with Motorcraft. My previous fuel filter help up through two trips across the U.S. and extended service of working in dusty, mountain conditions. The fact that it held up through all that with just a bit of rust caused by the bracket that holds the filter onto the car was impressive! Ford engineers designed this fuel filter - use it.

Disconnecting my old fuel filter was troublesome at first even with the disconnect tool. But once I got it off. It couldnt have gotten any easier. Now my mustang is no longer shaking like it is about to die any time a idle. Dont pay a mechanic to install this for you. They will charge you an unreasonable amount of money for a 5 minute task. MIne tried to charge me close to $100. I did it myself for $10. Thanks Advance

I own a 2005 and a 2006 F150. the application was listed as the same for both. It did not fit the 06 and I had to make another trip back to the store. Exchanged this one for a Purolator which fit. Not a big deal, just measure your old filter tubes.

Bought this to replace my original fuel filter. Motorcraft is the OEM part supplier for Ford so it was a perfect fit. Depressurize the fuel system, jack up the car, unhook some fuel lines and loosen some bolts, popped the new one back in and you're good to go. Depends on the vehicle and the location of the filter this could be a 30 minutes easy job.

                          A:

With respect to your inquiry on Motorcraft Original Equipment (OE) Fuel Filter
-(Part No. FG986B) the installation instruction is as follows. Find the fuel-pump switch which is located in the trunk on the driver's side, under the carpet. First unplug the switch's electrical connector start the engine and and allow it to run until it stalls out to relieve the fuel-system pressure. Turn the ignition key off then jack up the rear of the car. The fuel filter is mounted under your vehicle in front of the gas tank, next to the frame. Remove the plastic "hairpin" clips, which are located on each end of the fuel filter. This is a two-part process. Spread the two clip legs about 1/8 inch apart and then push in on them. Pull on the other end of the clip to detach it from the fitting. Remove the hoses one at a time. Pull them straight off the filter, so as to not bend the connections. With a screwdriver, loosen the clamp holding the fuel filter. Remove the filter, making note of the direction it's facing. Install new one in the same direction as the old one. Most new filters have arrows on them to indicate the direction of fuel flow. The arrow should be pointing toward the front of the car. Replace both hoses carefully onto new fuel filter. Re-install the hairpin clips--be sure that the clips are attached securely. Re-tighten the clamp. Reconnect the fuel switch's electrical connection.

                        • CUSTOMER CARE

                          A:

Once you have removed the safety clip, slide the fuel line away from the filter so you have got enough room to insert the disconnect tool. You have to slide the filter partially out of the bracket to gain access. Push the tool in to the fuel line (away from the filter) and listen/feel for a click to indicate you have disengaged the locking device from the filter. Once you have disengaged, pull the line away from the filter. Try to move the fuel line so that it is raised to minimize fuel leakage from there as well. There is this locking device within the fuel lines. Note the "teeth." These are springs that lock on the raised flange of the fuel filter. When you insert the tool to disconnect, you are pressing in on these springs. For any further assistance please feel free to call 1-877-238-2623 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                          Instructions
Things You'll Need: Fuel filter, Fuel line removal tool, Flat-head screwdriver.
                          1. Find the fuse box of your Ford F-150, located on the passenger side of the truck under the dashboard. Locate the fuel reset switch that is next to the fuse box with a red cap on top. 2. Start the motor of your vehicle and then depress the red cap by hand at the top of the fuel reset switch to stop the flow of fuel to the engine. Once the engine dies, crank the motor a couple of times to drain all the fuel pressure from the line. 3. Locate the fuel filter on the inside of the frame rail under the driver's side door. Notice the markings on the fuel filter and how it is pointing, so you can identify which way to install the new filter. 4. Disconnect the metal retaining clip by hand from the front (engine) side of the fuel filter and move it out of the way. Compress the metal fitting that sits over the front of the fuel filter with a line-removal tool until the filter comes loose, and then separate the line from the filter. 5. Separate the rear of the fuel filter from the fuel line by carefully using the line-removal tool to compress the metal fitting until it come loose, then remove the filter from the line. 6. Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the clamps holding the fuel filter in place. Slide the old filter out of the clamps and discard the filter. 7. Slide the new filter into the clamps with the arrows on the filter pointing toward the engine and tighten the clamp with a screwdriver. Connect the front fuel line to the front of the fuel filter by sliding the compression ring back and placing the line over the filter until the ring snaps into place, then move the locking clip into place. 8. Connect the fuel line that runs to the fuel tank by pulling back on the compression ring and sliding the fuel line over the filter until the ring snaps into place, then move the blue locking clip in place over the line. 9. Check all your connections to verify that they are set right and then depress the red fuel pump inertia switch. Turn the engine over by turning the key without starting the engine and counting to 10. 10. Check the fuel line again to verify that there are no leaks.

For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

                          A:

For high mileage vehicles, replacing the fuel filter annually for preventative maintenance is a good idea for two reasons. By the time a vehicle is six or seven years old, there can be a fair amount of rust and debris in the fuel tank. Rust can be formed by moisture and condensation, and debris can get into your tank anytime you add fuel. So changing it on a periodic basis can help minimize the risk of plugging.
