It seems to be an instrument cluster issue which is very common among GM/Chevy vehicles. The reason the cluster is acting eratic is due to the stepper motor which has gone bad. These motors are replaceable however will have to be soldered into the circuit board. I have a 2001 Silverado 2500HD Duramax. Periodically at low to no speed i have a loss of powr and the truck will next to not go forward. I have replaced the F-N-R switch on the side of the trans about a year ago. So im thinking that it could be the speed sensor. The truck has 223k on it and the speed sensor is origional. I have a 2004 Z-71 offroad avalanche.My ABS light comes on occasionally when in park and when I start driving the light goes out. An auto tech told me it was my speed sensor sending a faulty signal. Also my speedo reads different from the speed on my Edge tuner.I also had this problem before the tuner. After looking under my truck I see 2 sensors on either side of the case.
