my pontiac montana has a oil leak that is coming behind the oil filter mount ,and i was told that the leak could be from the oil pressure plug/switch i am not sure , what do u think ?

      A:

Normally it is a gasket or o-ring that should be replaced(for a leak at the oil filter mount). There is an O ring behind the oil cooler (oil filter housing). Just remove the oil filter and then remove the hollow stud the oil filter screws onto. Remove the O ring, clean the surfaces, lube the new O ring with motor oil and re-install.

what size socket or wrench to remove or install

    • A:

Do NOT use a crescent wrench. It should be a 1 inch socket size. However, you should be able to rent a special tool from any advanced auto parts store.

You can most likely just use a crescent wrench.
