This BWD EGR Valve (Part No. EGR1273) has got limited lifetime replacement. This warranty is valid for the stated period of time printed on your Invoice and Order Confirmation email provided you were the original purchaser of the part and you still own the vehicle on which it was installed. This warranty cannot be transferred to anyone at any time. Parts installed on commercial use vehicles are warranted for 90 days from the date of purchase.

The "quick and dirty" method to TESTING to see if your EGR valve is not functioning properly is to put a block-off plate over the port(s) once you've removed the valve, start the engine, and observe any changes in the way that the engine runs. An improvement will indicate a bad EGR valve, and no change will indicate that your EGR valve is likely fine. You will need to be a little creative and make your own block off plate out of a piece of steel or aluminum. If this is out of the realm of your abilities, I'd suggest taking it to a qualified mechanic to have them properly diagnose and repair your vehicle. There are other component electrical tests that can be performed as well.

Fuel pressure might be too low. Or a bad coolant sensor can trick the computer into not allowing enough fuel. Bad oxygen sensor can also cause it. Also check fuel injectors for debris. These are the major possibilities for a rough engine run.

Installing an BWD P/N: EGR1273 on a 1998 Chevy K2500 pickup with the 5.7L Vortec V-8 just took me about 10 minutes to do.

I'd suppose it MAY take you a bit longer. If you are not an experienced mechanic, allow yourself at least 1/2 hour to do the replacement. This part is extremely easy to replace on this particular vehicle as it's located right on top of the engine at the front, just next to the coolant/water neck inlet just off the intake manifold.

Removal of the EGR valve required unplugging the weatherpack electrical connector, and removing (2) 8mm bolts (with a 10mm socket hex). The tools required to make the job a snap is a 10mm socket, a 6" long extension, and a ratchet. I used my 1/4" drive set & that's all you need. If you don't have a 1/4" drive set, a 3/8" drive ratchet/socket set will do.

During installation, do not over-torque the bolts, as they tighten into ALUMINUM. Use a few dabs of red hi-temp RTV to stick your new gasket to the EGR valve to ease installation.

Since a 1998 GMC Jimmy (aka Chevy Blazer) will have a 4.3L Vortec V-6 engine, you will likely just need a new distributor cap & rotor. It couldn't hurt to also replace your spark plugs and spark plug wires at this time also. (Honestly, when was the last time you replaced them? LOL!)

The 4.3L V-6's are great engines, but it's very well known that the distributor ignition on these engines are a weak point. It's very common to get moisture/condensation under the distributor cap, which in turn will short out the ignition spark, and create rough running or in many cases, a NO START condition. Occurs particularly when it's damp & rainy outside (high ambient air humidity), and typically on the "first-start" of the day.

This was NOT the best place for me to have explained this, but I did. Your described issue is almost certain NOT to be your EGR valve.

Install a new distributor cap, rotor, & wires.

I would NOT recommend using the Autolite wires, they have a very high failure rate.
