It's a fuel filter.... sure it works well... as far as I can tell. The rubber piece surrounding mine wasn't a perfect line up for my 99 bmw 528i but I made it work.

Gas filter was the wrong size. Our car needed the advanced size which was not available at the time. The book just listed one size for our car and it was the wrong one. Hopefully, your books in the future will reflect the two different types of filters used on a 2001 BMW 325i. It was our fault too for not checking on the size and style before picking it up at the store. I knew that it may be a different one but I trusted the book. I know better.

ya pretty much, just take one apart, a couple grades better than a coffee filter. My beef is the size. it says it fits that's all. Is it the size of a banana, a hotdog, how about some specs, hello.
