My old valve cover gasket was leaking oil and my entire engine was covered in sludgy soot from the oil. This product did the trick. Took about 1 hr. and wasn't hard to do. Just make sure when you take the cover off you keep it clean. One thing you could do, and do it at your own discretion, is to clean the top of the engine with an engine cleaner and then wait till it's completely dry before opening it. There was so much soot on mine that when I took the cover off I was battling little bits of crud getting on my fingers and falling into the open valve chamber(?). Have a little parts bowl to keep all the bolts. It's easy to drop a couple and you need all of them. Don't over torque, you will feel when it's tight enough because the bolts will suddenly get really hard to turn.

Both the gasket and gromets are perfect fir my 2001 Cherokee 4.0L. I spent a lot of extra time getting everything out of the way to keep dirt out of the engine, so the job took about 3 hours including cleaning the valve cover and scraping the block. I guess you could do it in 1 hr. like one guy said if you just forced everything out of the way. I also had to get a pcv grommet #42344 and pvc elbo #47079 when the old one broke.

It had a nice steel core with locating holes for easy alignment. Tip: Disconnect the throttle cables and remove the mounting bracket. The whole thing can then be flipped over to left and out of your way. And oh yeah, spend the time to clean the valve cover and the head really good!
