Comments about BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor:

The CJ model Jeep wouldn't start, but like other vehicles once the coolant temperature sensor fails, and is registering (within itself) an overheated engine, then the computer disallows a start-up as a fail-safe. This is the second vehicle I know of where this has happened. It's an extremely easy fix but can't be diagnosed with OBDII. So I would recommend replacing this (inexpensive) unit first on a vehicle that 'all of a sudden' won't start.

                    A:

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor Part No. WT3089 the engine coolant temperature sensor on your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L is installed next to the thermostat housing and protrudes into the water jacket. The sensor provides an input voltage to the powertrain control module (PCM) relating coolant temperature. The PCM uses this input along with inputs from other sensors to determine injector pulse width and ignition timing. This is the only coolant temperature sensor on your vehicle. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                    A:

The coolant temperature sensor should be located on the cylinder head at the side that faces the battery. It is a kind of hidden, it might need to push some wires out of the way to see it. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
