This part has corrected the annoying clunking in the steering column of my 2004 Chevy Suburban Z-71. Took me about an 1.5 hours to replace. I'm not a seasoned mechanic, just a driveway DIY guy. After 300 miles on/off road, not a peep from it. Very satisfied. Best price on this site; picked up at the store.
Annoying aspects of removal and install: This part goes through the firewall of the truck. You will curse while having to work in the confined space under the dashboard and around hoses next to motor. 15mm wrenches and deep socket ratchet should do the trick. Had to remove boot from firewall to get the old one out (very easy to remove). Install was much faster than removal.
Good luck; is worth the investment.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Intermediate Steering Shaft:
I installed this part in my driveway in about an hour. Although tricky to access the steering shaft, the instructions were dead on. As I drove my truck the next day, I kept waiting to feel the old clunking problem re-occur, but no. This product fixed GM's problem completely. Very satisfied!

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Intermediate Steering Shaft:
Finally decided to buy this upper steering shaft since I had a $25 coupon from a previous online purchase. It took about 10 minutes to install and then I went for a test drive. No more clunking. Steering is nice and smooth again.

Pretty straight forward change out by myself. Fixed the "clunk" I was able to hear when turning slow. Seemed to be better than the OEM shaft that was installed from teh factory.

This part is a quality replacement thats a better than OE design. But be careful the aftermarket parts world is FULL of parts that don't fit right, don't work right and that will just plain drive you nuts ! Can't count the number of new aftermarket bad cam sensors, glow plug controllers, misalligned timing covers and other bad parts I have changed over 30 years of doing this. Oe if you can afford it.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Intermediate Steering Shaft:
Product removed clunking in turns. Installed according to directions. Had a distinct metal on metal impact felt in the steering wheel for road surface the tires the tires covered. Wasn't sensitive enough to the road surface to be a vibration, but any change in the road which caused the suspension to move, resulted in the impact being felt in the wheel. Removed the product, greased the shaft, reinstalled, and the road surface feel was greatly reduced. Product is a great improvement over GM shaft. Might need to grease the shaft prior to installation to elimate feeling the suspension following the road.

If you do this yourself remove the gas pedal with a 10mm. It's only two bolts but it will save you 15min.

Has this shaft been redesigned from the original manufacturer's part? In other words how is it better? The om part has a design flaw that causes it to prematurely wear out and create a clunking in the steering mechanism on wide turns at low speeds over bumps. Please advise.3 answers

I haven't seen many good reviews on this part from Dorman. It is supposed to be improved, but it is not. Replace with the new OE replacement part number 19153614, but also replace the bearing which is part number 88963617. Do them both at the same time. Good Luck!
