Engineered with optimized low resistance, high turns ratio windings around an M36 high silicone magnetic steel E-core for higher energy and voltage outputs. Results in quicker starts, improved idle quality, crisper throttle response and more high RPM power. Compatible with late model GM computer controlled remote mount HEI systems. Direct bolt-in, plug-in replacement. Can also work with CD ignition systems. Special high temperature epoxy resists shock and vibration, while increasing thermal conductivity. Brass coil wire contact increases energy transfer and resists corrosion better than aluminum. Comes complete with new mounting hardware. High dielectric strength ACCEL yellow over molded housing. Output is 48,000 volts with 0.2ohms resistance.

Good quality part, nicely made. Manufacture in China. If you have problems with the OE Coil this one for me was a good choice.

      • Q:

I have 1997 chevy astro 4.3 vortec engine. Last night was running perfect, but this morning and after windy and rainy night, the van will crank but will not start.
I visually inspected the Dist Cap and Rotor, ignition wires, spark plugs...they all seem OK. Fuel pump and injectors are working because I inspected the plugs I could smell gas on them.
I am leaning towards the ignition coil; although I can see the spark coming through the coil wire that goes in the distributor, but I cant tell if it is strong enough. I swithed two ignition wires and cranked the engine and I noticed sparks coming from the neck of the coil and the wire. I put the two ignition wires back as they were and cranked the engine.. I did not see any more sparks from the neck of the coil.
My question is- is it normal for the coil to spark at the neck when you have wrong firing order? or is the coil defect?

          A:

If the engine runs but misfires, one or more spark plugs may be worn or fouled, or there may be one or more bad spark plug wires. To diagnose this kind of problem, observe the firing pattern for each cylinder on an oscilloscope.

What does remote mount mean exactly?

        • A:

GM HEI systems use coils that are a) mounted inside the distributor cap or b) mounted external or "remotely" and connected to the cap by a coil wire.

        • A:

It is not co mounted with the distributor, usually mounted 12” or more from the distributor.
