      A:

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Vehicle Speed Sensor - part# S8363, the vehicle speed sensor and or even the transmission control solenoid may be the possible cause of the problem on your GMC Sonoma. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. • Q:

We replaced this part thinking it would correct the problem with my speedodometer but it wasn't the problem. speedodometer still maxes out while driving at highway speed. Can be reset to zero by turning ignition key but not cranking it. Does anyone know if there is another fix to this problem other than replacing the whole instrument cluster? Vehicle is a 2003 trailblazer.

Replace faulty stepper motors. I bought the motors and lights and did it my self.'crautorepair2@gmail.com' Small electric soldering required. If you are not comfortable doing it you can go to http://www.myairbags.com/gmclusters.php
They did my ABS unit and also do Instrument Cluster. This is a common defect in all gm cars utilizing these motors in the instrument cluster.

      A:

The problem seems to be within the speedometer cluster and it has to be replaced. The clusters made after 2000 for a Chevrolet Trailblazer have Stepper Motors to drive all the gauges. The Tachometer and Speedometer are the most prone to failure as they are used the most. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed.

  • Q:

Would this sensor stop the hard shifting and have my overdrive kick in when I need it to?
Asked on 10/3/2011 by Rob from Ocala,Fl.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The vehicle speed sensor, or VSS, monitors vehicle speed so the computer can regulate torque converter clutch lockup, shifting, etc.
A malfunctioning VSS can disable the cruise-control system as well as affect transmission shifting and converter engagement.

It is located inside the transmission, under the tranny's side-cover. It's labor intensive because you must lower the whole engine/transmission cradle to access it.
