The Superstat has the added features of a heavier frame, spring and heat motor for more control and longer life. Its unique, patented valve promotes extremely fast flow as the thermostat opens to reduce cycling. This thermostat offers a longer life so you do not have to change the thermostat as often, promotes improved engine efficiency from better temperature control and provides high flow.

              It is always recommended to replace the thermostat with higher degree.

              well if its summer go with 160 degree, if winter go with 180 degree, hotter in summer lower degree u want, and for winter u want to go with 180 degree for better heat in your vehicle.

              185 but this will cool your car for the hotter temps. It will open up when the temp gets this high and cool more often. Go with it. T

              In most cases when a thermostat fails in the closed position because the spring closes the thermostat and the wax is what opens it up. When the wax pellet is gone from the thermostat, there is nothing left to open the thermostat up anymore.

              YOu can purchase failsafe thermostats that will stick in the open position when they go out. I found them at a competitor for $13.99 actually. They have a copper mechanism to hold it open when it fails so that it continues to circulate. But, for the cost difference, if you are fairly close to a autoparts store, you could go with the cheaper one and just know you have less time to get it fixed ( which should be done anyway instead of running it after it fails for ever).
