Q:
I'm having trouble determining whether I have a problem in the power steering pump or the steering gear. When I turn to the right at low speed there is no power assist and a whooshing sound. At any speed above Idle it's ok. I've changed the belt and the fluid (several times). Since these are rather expensive parts, I don't want to change one or the other on a guess. It is recommended to replace the Power Steering Pump with the reservoir. Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle.
