my vehical hard start when started runs very well then shuts down like out of gas if the fuel pump relay is not working properly when driving will engine die as out of gas. then after letting car sit 10-20 minute it starts and drive 5-10 miles before doing it allover again?Asked on 4/9/2012 by rekim621 answer

It could be a number of things causing this. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose what is wrong with your vehicle without being able to be there with your vehicle. Yes, a bad fuel pump relay might do this. One of the prime symptoms of a faulty bad fuel pump relay is the engine cranking up but not starting. This points towards a problem with the fuel delivery system and it may be that the fuel pump relay that is the culprit. Erratic functioning of the engine at the start and delay in starting up can be an indication of a faulty fuel pump relay. That is why, if you consistently notice a delay in engine starting, check the fuel pump relay. Once the relay stops functioning, the fuel pump will not switch on and the familiar sound of fuel pump working will not be heard. Ears trained to hear the normal sounds made by the car at start will notice the difference.Answered on 3/24/2012 by John the Car-Doc from AAP

This part will not help you in fuel consumption. Only a Fuel Pump Relay is intended to power up your vehicle's fuel pump in the event that your vehicle's engine is turned on. If the Fuel Pump Relay breaks, the vehicle's engine will take a while to start resulting in bad fuel economy.Answered on 2/9/2012 by John the Car-Doc from AAP
