Comments about Dayco No Slack Idler/Tensioner Pulley:

In case you don' know, that whining sound coming from your envoy is not related to power steering. It's the idler pulley. This fits a V6 Envoy. 15 minute install..only need a breaker bar and ratchet.

my tensioner is squealing and I want to know if I can just replace the idler/tensioner pulley ($17.00) or do I need to replace the arm and the pulley ($49.00)? Are special skills required to remount the new pulley to the old arm?

                A:

Replacing just the idler/tensioner pulley should meet your need instead of changing with the arm. Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

My trailblazer is making a whining noise. I understand that it is a problem with the idler pulley and is common in these vehicles. Does anyone know if this is true and if this is the part to fix it?

                A:

Replace both the idler and tensioner pulleys. It takes about 45 minutes start to finish. If it still whines, as mine did, it may be the water pump. It is an inexpensive fix if it is the pulleys that are the problem. If not, then at least you diagnosed the problem for less than $50. My Trailblazer had 50K miles on it when the whining started. Hope that helps.
