      A:

You will have to remove the power steering pump to reach CAM position sensor. You just have to unhook the line(pump) where it attaches to the back of the alternator so you can give the pump plenty of room to swing out of the way and reach the sensor.

      A:

Examine the lower engine area on the passenger's side. Locate the crankshaft pulley mounted on the engine block, identifiable as a double-layered metal sphere resembling a tire.
Examine the area above and behind the crankshaft pulley for a small black circular component resembling a washer, this is the camshaft position sensor.

  • Q:

I have a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L. The Haynes manual doesn't even mention the camshaft sensor, but I know it has one. Could someone tell me where it's located? Also, the location of the crankshaft sensor. Thanks.

      A:

The camshaft position sensor is located in the engine compartment. It is on the engine and can be found between the intake manifold and the firewall. The large pulley on the bottom of the motor is the crank pulley. Behind the crank pulley is a ring, your crankshaft sensor is located just above this ring and will have electrical wires plugged into it.

Depends on what type of vehicle you have, if you could provide year, make, model, and engine size would be able to research, also I recommend visiting your local Advance Auto Parts store and purchasing Haynes Repair Manual. The book will provide you with replacing the BWD Camshaft Sensor for your specific vehicle. It will also direct you step by step with detailed instructions on the replacement process for any part on your vehicle.
