  • Q:

Would the TPS cause code P0305 and check engine light to stay on? Ford Explorer 1996 4.0 4wd XLT. THe code seems to be engine misfiring on #5 cyl.

      A:

This code P0305 can be caused due to faulty spark plug or wire, faulty coil (pack), faulty oxygen sensor(s), faulty fuel injector, burned exhaust valve, faulty catalytic converter(s), running out of fuel, poor compression, defective computer. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.

  • Q:

My 96 ford explorer has started chugging, and now wants to stall when you first start it up . Could the throttle position sensor be the problem?
Asked on 5/27/2012 by paula from martin,pa

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

There are many possibilities for an Engine to stall while starting - an engine vacuum leak, a dirty or defective airflow sensor, a defective idle speed control system, a faulty coolant sensor, a faulty air temperature sensor, a bad Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, Low engine compression and Worn or fouled spark plugs. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

  • Q:

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0 engine. I can start the truck up and let it run and it sounds good as long as it is in park but when i try to put it in gear (under a load) it starts to misfire like it is sucking to much air. Could it be the Throttle Position Sensor? Or should I be looking at the egr sensor ? Thanks Duane

This could possibly be the problem. However, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer.

  • Q:

If the tps is bad what are the effects or how would the vehicle run different? My explorer is acting real cold natured and won't stay running without me keeping my foot on the gas until it warms up and thenwants to die when I start to drive it and will die sometimes while I anm shifting gears. If the tps is bad would it cause my vehicle to run like that, and if its not that what would make it run like that?

Possibly, it could also be the idle air control if your vehicle is equipped with one.

  • Q:

Will this part help to keep the car from idling too low.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The throttle position sensor usually is not the cause of car idling problems. Usually the idle air control valve is what causes idling problems.
