My truck couldn't run safely without this piece. We couldn't figure out why the radiator was always bone dry and the truck was always overheating. We found that the original piece was split and draining water every time the engine ran, so much that it would drain 3 gallons of water in less than 30 minutes. We got the replacement part, and after a 7 minute installation, the truck is running smoother and keeping the water where it belongs. This is a necessary piece, don't bother trying to fix the old one temporaroly, just get a new one that will work for a long while.

This one lasted a year and a week! Just past the warranty period of 1 year! It's leakikng at the vacuum assembly, so you can't fix it, I'll have to buy another one. In an emergency, this will work fine or if you can't find one else where. I'm going to try another brand.

        Comments about Factory Air Valve:

The product is an exact fit for my 1997 Ford Ranger XLT V6 and looks identical to the original part. However, the part failed twice in less than one month. The first one began leaking 3 days after installation. The second began leaking 2 weeks after installation. In both cases, it leaked at the point where the metal valve shaft enters the housing. I decided to switch to Motorcraft OEM and found the part online for $24 shipped.

this thing is junk. my OEM one lasted 14 years, i put this on the truck and it lasted 1 month. started to leak from the arm and drop coolant on to the exhaust manifold. replaced it under warranty. this one has lasted about 6 weeks and it's leaking from the same place. i wouldn't recommend getting this, buy it elsewhere. will be returning tomorrow for a refund.

            Comments about Factory Air Valve:

I replaced this unit twice. 1st within 1 yr.warranty. The second one lasted about 2 yrs. But it blew apart on highway and lost all coolant within seconds. The valve looked like it exploded. [*]. Not worth buying at any price. Motorcraft can be purchased at the same price. Save yourself money and grief, do not buy this brand. [*]

I owned a 1996 Ford Ranger XL extended cab. Engine size 2.3

A reputable auto care company told me I needed to replace this part asap. It will cost me a lot for parts and labor. I am not a mechanic but would like to do it myself. How difficult is it to replace this part? Does it require disconnecting a lot of things under the hood? Will I lose all of the antifreeze when I replace the value? The car place told me I needed to do get a coolant system service done immediately after I replace the valve. installed.

                • A:

On my Ranger with a 3.0 engine all that is needed is to unclamp 4 hoses, and install the part. You may lose a small amount of antifreeze while installing the valve but this should only amount to about a cup or so out of about a gallon which can then v=be easily replaced. Replace the valve as not doing so will cause you to lose a large amount of antifreeze and could possibly lead to other problems. As far as having a coolant service done afterwards, only if you are due for that service in your regular maintenance, or if the leak persists.

With out the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.

where does the vacume line hoke to this valve, because I replace this valve on my truck because I was not getting any heat inside now I am getting to much heat inside I cannot turn it down with the heat control knob.

                • A:

The vacuum line connects to the round can on the right side of the valve. Be sure nothing is interfering with the actuator arm on the valve that would not allow it to move, or it could be a bad vacuum line or heat control knob in the truck.
