It is necessary to replace strut mounts if they are rusted to do an alignment. Strut mounts are the pivot point of the suspension for steering, if the mounts are damaged either torn or bearing inside mount is bad then yes they should be replaced or if the studs on the mounts are so rusted that it might break.Answered on 10/24/2011 by John the Car-Doc from AAP
