With reference to your inquiry on the BWD/Intermotor Sensor - Knock (Detonation) - part# S8619, the knock sensor on your 1995 Nissan Maxima should be located under the intake manifold, bolted to the middle of the engine block. With the hood open, standing by the drivers side front tire, you can see it by shining a flashlight at the opening under the intake manifold. • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Knock sensors detect abnormal vibrations in the engine. The system is designed to reduce spark knock during periods of heavy detonation. Knock sensors produce AC output voltage which increases with the severity of the knock. The signal is fed into the PCM and the timing is retarded to compensate for the severe detonation.

                    A:

If the knock sensor is not working properly, you will likely hear sounds emitting from the engine. You may hear loud thumping noises that become louder over time. The noise is a
result of fuel and air igniting inside the cylinder, instead of reaching the point of combustion. The vehicle will often shake or vibrate and misfire when the engine is started. Fuel economy
                    is often affected.

                    A:

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the ECM.
