After a few unsuccessful attempts to "counter" the tensioner, I struck pay dirt with a trip to my local Ace Hardware. I happened upon a 1/2 inch * 2 inch square key (fastener section) that I had cut into two pieces ($3.00 in the store; about a 3/4" and a 1 1/4. Using a ratchet box-end and the shorter square key, I inserted the key into the "hole" on the "pulley" end and rotated counter clockwise...

2001 Chrysler T&C: For rotating the tensioner, it does not have the square boss on the pivot end like the original. As stated in the other review, a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar will *not* fit into the square hole due to the frame rail. I made a 3/8" long-arm ratchet work by first adding a small nut in the square hole to fill the void. Worked like a charm. The arm thickness is also less than the original, but I'm hoping it was over-designed the first time. Both the OEM and this replacement part were made by Dayco.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
There are some very helpful reviews already on this item. I wish I had read them before wrestling with this. I'll add that an 8" pipe wrench also does the trick since the handle is approximately 90 degrees from the square end you're trying to grab on to. I used the outer square shape of the arm rather than the intended square socket.
It's unfortunate that they eliminated the square lug at the other end since it was located perfectly for this application that requires accessing the tensioner from below. As someone else commented my original (2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with 3.3L flexi-fuel) was also made by Dayco and was of essentially identical construction except it had the convenient square lug on the other end of the arm.

I ordered this part online. It was the exact correct replacement belt tensioner for the original one that failed. The part was ready and waiting for me when I got to the store to pick it up plus by ordering online I saved an additional 25% due to an ongoing promotional.

Chrysler doesn't give you much room to change it.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
Worked great. Make life easy and rent the installation tool from Advance for $30, which you can get back when you return it. No broken knuckles trying to rotate the tensioner. Installed the tensioner and a new belt in 20 minutes.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
Bought this for my wife's Chrysler minivan - belt was slipping and it would lose power steering in puddles. Installation is easy, car is much quieter now. I will know about the slippage after the next rainstorm. Problems: (1) I've had mixed experiences with components made in China (like this one) (2) it has a plastic pulley, not steel (to be fair, so did the original). (3) part is listed as LIGHT DUTY, I couldn't find a heavy duty unit. (4) Original tensioner had a sqare boss on the back where you could use a wrench to move it, the new one does not have this. I got a pipe wrench on part of it to release tension while I installed the belt, but some people may need to buy a $30 belt tool for this. I think that's absurd. I will post another review after we have driven on it for a while.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
Have same comments as a previous customer, the original tensioner had a boss to put a wrench to to loosen belt, new one didn't. Wasn't a problem, just used my big channel locks and moved the tensioner with ease.
