Comments about BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor:

Used to fix low gauge readings on 1995 Ford Explorer XLT 2WD. I feel good knowing my engine is running at its proper operating temperatures.

When installing make sure you keep turning it until it starts getting hard to turn.

Replaced with Part No. WT5058Z. This sensor goes to the temp gauge. My gauge would consistently stay on the low side. Once I replaced with this sensor; back in NORMAL.

Comments about BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor:

I diagnosed the defective sensor by shorting the single wire connector to ground while an assistant watched the temp gauge to ensure full swing with key on. Don't peg the gauge to the hot side though. Drain about half the coolant, remove old sensor, screw in and tighten new unit. DON'T use any sealant on the threads as this'll block electrical flow to ground. Works fine as best I know so far. Fixed my problem.

This is in a real tight space. You will need a socket and a way to turn it. Maybe a U-joint or some other flexible extension.

This sensor works the gauge on the dash.

The other one next to it works the computer.

Comments about BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor:

It's only a few bucks, and if you are replacing your thermostat you'll be looking right at this sensor the whole time. Might as well replace it while you're under there - then you'll know your coolant system will be keeping your engine in the prime operating temperature band.

These sensors don't go as routinely and predictably as thermostats, but they do die. If your thermostat has lasted 100k-150k miles or more, when you replace the 'stat you won't be doing that again for the life of your truck. Wouldn't it stink if 10k miles later you get the same codes because the ECT sensor has gone?
