Comments about BWD Ignition Control Module:
This device failed to work properly. Advance did not have the ability to test this ICM so I had it tested at another auto parts store. I do normally buy from Advance.

Comments about BWD Ignition Control Module:
Was at the check out ready for my immediate pick up when I arrived at the store. This was an exact replacement for the OEM ICM and a exact fit. Appeared to be very well built with the ultrasoninc welds appearing stronger than the OEM product. There was no arrow or word indicating which end was to go up (as on the OEM ICM) but I noticed that the pins were numbered as on the OEM ICM so I was abel to decide the up/down orientation that was. A note should be included stating this. Also it would be good to include a small amount of dielectric grease for the mounting surface and the pins. Fortunately I keep a tube handy for tune ups. All in all a positive experience though.

Comments about BWD Ignition Control Module:
I loved the fact that on my 1994 ford ranger the icm is very easy to gain access to. Unfortunetly, the 3 bolts on the intake manifold which hold the icm into place, 1 out of the 3 bolts snapped on me trying to take them out. This was a big headache. The icm does run on 2 bolts out of the 3 perfectly fine. Other then the fact the bolts have a tendency to snap, it was a very basic, and very simple install. Id say any DIY'r could pull it off. All you need is a socket and wratchet. If no bolts snap, its a 10-15 minute fix. This item does NOT come with the dielectric paste to put on the back of the icm. So i went to the local advanced and found it for $1.80 for a small packet. It only took 1 packet.

Q:
Where would the Ignition Control Module be located on my 96 ranger 2.31 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Ignition Control Module - Part No. CBE42 your 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3L does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it receives from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. Your PCM is located in the engine bay to right of your engine mounted in the fire wall just above your engine.
