A Steering Gear Box is the component within a car’s steering system that guides the wheel’s movement in conjunction with the direction that the steering wheel is rotated—helping achieve ideal steering response for more efficient driving. The micro-finished surfaces of its shafts are precision-designed to provide a smoother drive, while the factory-set Pitman shaft transmits the motion it receives from the gear box by moving the wheels left or right to turn the wheels. OEM-grade O-rings and seals meet required specifications.

Product Features :
  • Precision designed micro-finished shafts
  • Factory pre-set Pitman Shaft
  • 100% tested OEM Grade Seals and O-rings

Performs as advertised. Like most PS gears, this one wasn't light so be careful when installing (get a pair of helping hands). Don't forget to flush the old fluid BEFORE installing the gear. Also a good time to change the pressure hose while it is apart. Great value for the money.

Comments about Fenco Steering Gear Box:

I had to return the first gearbox that I got because the threads where you attach the pitman arm nut were damaged. They gave me another one and it was fine. I recommend making sure the pitman nut and the mounting bolts go on with no problems as soon as you buy it.

Comments about Fenco Steering Gear Box:

I bought this steering box for my 96 f350 because of steering play and wander that I issolated to the steering box. After instaling the box I took it for a ride and their was no change in steering wheel play. After instaling box I noticed that it takes noticably more effort to turn the wheel left than it does right. With the steering wheel unlocked I can reach thru the wheelwell and turn the steering shaft almost halfway around before the pitman arm moves. I also bought an oem style powersteering return line from advanced and the fitting's threads were stripped right out of the package. Verry dissapointed

Direct replacement remanufactured part. The part fix perfectly and fixed my massive p/s leak. Haven't run it much since the swap to have opinion about lifespan....only time will tell about that. Get some help swapping this thing out as it weighs roughly 40 pounds. You better have a pitman arm puller lined up and know how to apply force properly. Advance has the loaner program for that. Removing the pitman arm is definitely the worst part of this replacment job!!

Comments about Fenco Steering Gear Box:

The first one I received, had severly damaged threads (from previous owner smashing with a hammer)! Very surprised it even made it through inspection process! Make sure you check threads BEFORE leaving store. Had to make a second trip to store for replacement. Very glad I did'nt install then find this out! The pitman arm is a REAL pain to remove! I found it to be much easier just to remove entire gear box from truck, then remove it! Attach pitman arm puller and tighten down VERY tight! Then use a balljoint sepperater and wedge in between puller and gearbox housing. I used a 5 pound sledge and it popped off on third hit! You may have to move sepperator back and forth (both sides) if it is not wide enough to get both sides in at once. You can also use heat ONLY if you are replacing gear box! Heat on a new box will destroy the seals in seconds! Been a couple weeks and it works perfectly!

These are not that difficult to replace. I haven't done one in a while but the hardest part is dealing with all of the rust! Depending on where your live I guess... The lines and everything could break off if it is rusted real good. Just soak it down with some good penetrating fluid and buy new lines just in case; you can always return them if you don't need them. You will need a puller tool to get the pitman arm off though. They are not that expensive, especially if you get it from Harbor Freight.
