Comments about BWD Sensor - Vehicle Speed:

There is a small gear that fits on the end of this sensor, it is normally worn and most parts clerks have no idea it has to be replaced or removed from the shaft and put on the new one, there is a small clip that retains the gear and the clip nor gear is available to the customer to be replaced, in fact like me It appeared to be the wrong part without the gear and cost a lot of time and effort to figure this out.

I have a 1989 ford ranger 4x4 2.9 five speed. I have been having a problem when it runs for a trip over 30 miles it starts to chug, espc. in 1st 2nd and 3rd. if I run it even longer it will not start after I shut it off. but If I let it set for 1-2 hrs it will start back up but still chugs. I also have a ticking which I think is the valve lifter or the rocker arm. Parts I have replaced: The fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, changed the oil, (Tune up) spark plugs, distributor, rotor button, wires, Valve cover gaskets, Brakes front&back, Rotors, Ball joints, tie rods.

              A:

The vehicle speed sensor and or even the transmission control solenoid may be the possible cause of the problem on your Ford Taurus. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

I have a check eng light on but advanced store said they can only test 96 and newer vehicles. Know how I can manually read the code from home?

two ways to read the check engine light on a obd 1 ford buy the scanner for the obd1 fords or use a volt meter it will also tell you. there is a trick to use a volt meter to check the engine light. it takes to long to explain.

you can find out by finding your EEC IV connector located in the engine compartment with the fuses.

If your cruise control works then this part is working. This is the only thing that tells the cruise what speed your car is going. There is another problem causing your overdrive not to function.

Yes, this could cause transmission shifting problems. The vehicle speed sensor is usually located at the rear of the transmission output shaft area.

Most likely it is a sensor for the engine. Like a crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, MAF, MAP, throttle position sensor, etc...
