I think I am not understanding. I have a 2005 Cadillac SRX. My husband is going to add freon to it because when I am idling my ac does not blow as well, but when I accelerate, it blows fine. Do we need to also add the R134a PAG 46 Refrigerant Oil to the system at the same time? Thank you for your answer and your patience!

                      A:

These are the common reasons for Air Conditioner does not work at idle. 1. The cooling fan for the condenser is not working. 2. The car could be overheating - caused by something else other than the cooling fan. 3. Heat transfer from the radiator to the condenser can alter efficiency, if the car is overheating. 4. The Air Conditioner compressor may not be pumping sufficiently at slower RPM's (revolutions per minute). 5. An expansion valve may not be regulating the refrigerant correctly. 6. Condenser fins could be bent or the condenser could be obstructed by foreign debris. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. • Q:

I need to recharge the A/C in a '97 Corolla DX and a '99 Corolla CE. Both need a full charge of R134a with sealant, but should I also add PAG 46 oil. Spec calls for 7 oz of oil in each but shouldn't there be some left in the system even after a year with no A/C? How much should I add and must I add the oil before recharging with Freon/sealant?

                      A:

Yes, there is no need to add the entire content of the Interdynamics R-134a PAG 46 Refrigerant Oil (8 oz.) (Part No. GPL-5). You should add only 2 or 3 oz which would be enough in the AC system. For any further assistance please feel free to call 1-877-238-2623 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

No way for the system to help empty the can when pulling a vacuum because it is NOT aresol can w/ tap on top. This is 8 oz bottle with twist cap that is to be "poured into system".

                      A:

Vacuum down the system first, to be sure you don't have any leaks. If the system is tight, add the oil (the vacuum will help empty the oil can). I would vacuum it again for awhile - I would recommend at least an hour - to get rid of any residual moisture and air that might have gotten in the system from putting in the oil. At that point I'd let in the first dose of refrigerant (one can, or about 12 ounces), then start the car and see if the compressor will cycle without you having to bypass the low pressure shutoff. The refrigerant going in should help move the oil toward the compressor, and as you finish the charge it should finish dispersing the oil throughout the system. "Most" compressors are sold with a small amount of oil inside so you're in no great danger of burning up the compressor initially, and using this method will help ensure you're OK.

                      A:

There really isn't a way to tell exactly how much you need. The only real way to have the correct amount put in the system is to evacuate and vacuum down the whole system and then recharge it with the proper amount. Wait until vehicle is completely cooled off. Fill the radiator until it is full. With the radiator cap off, start vehicle. If fluid goes down, pour more in until it levels off. Shut vehicle off and put the cap back on. If reservoir is low fill it to proper level.

                    • A:

The service port for low side is the smaller one. There are 2 ports on AC system. Big port which is High side and, small port is Low side. Charging hoses have small and larger hose ends that connect to High and Low service ports so in other words,, High side charging hose end won't connect to Low side port and Low side charging hose end won't connect to High side port. Use small port which is Low side to add freon, refrigerant oil or UV dye to system. Older R-12 ports could easily be connected either way but bottom line,,, if you connected to Bigger port / High side to charge system it could explode in your hand and face and do bodily injury. Newer R-134a systems are made so charging hose end WON'T connect to High side. Be Careful and make sure you connect to Low side ONLY when charging AC systems..

                      A:

The low side service port is on one of the two pipes going into your compressor, the larger diameter one (it should feel cool or cold to the touch) there is a valve, or Schrader type fitting. That is the service port.
