Comments about Worldwide Alternator:
There seems to be much discussion across the net about whether these are interchangeable with the 95 amp factory alternator on Ford Explorer / Rangers. My 99 XLS 4.0 (NOT overhead CAM) accepted this bigger alternator without a problem.
The voltage regulator did say Motorcraft on it, so I can't say that it was replaced. But, with the majority of failures with these alternators having nothing to do with the voltage regulator, I can't say that I disapprove.

I prefer to get alternators rebuilt locally, but if your in a hurry this is a good option.

i love to deal with advanced auto parts as they always have what i need and 99% of the time it is in stock, i will go out of the way to find a advanced auto parts to get the parts i need, in the passed i have tryed other auto parts and they always want to order it as most of the time it is not in stock. when i need a battery i only use advanced as i tryed [@] batteries and they just do not last, the ones from advanced last for years. i like the people that work at advanced as they are always nice, i have 3 cars and a truck and they all have parts from advanced. i do my own service. i have service manuals from advanced and it sure helps and you can ask the people at advanced for help and they look things up for you. they also run compurter checks at no charge. thank you i will be a customer for life.

Comments about Worldwide Alternator:
My alternator failed unexpectedly, but due to the dual-battery setup in my diesel, the loss of energy output from it was not immediately noticeable with the meter on the dash. When available charge from the battery dropped voltage significantly, and the instruments shut off, I immediately went over to the local Advance to see what was up. I was able to remove the alternator easily with simple hand tools I keep in the truck, and the folks at Advance spun-tested it for me to verify it was cooked. No problem, we have a new unit for [$] and a used unit for $140. This was an unexpected expense, so I went with the remanufactured unit, which happened to be a Motorcraft in its original state. Got it installed and back on the road, tests good, puts out the juice for the electrical system... great.I wasn't really in the position financially to buy the new unit, but I've no problem with remanufactured products so long as any wear items are completely replaced. Bearings, bushings, brushes, diodes, etc. What really turned me off about this alternator was the fact that the voltage regulator was noticeably used. Now, I'm not familiar with the theory and design of a voltage regulator, aside from knowing the brushes connected to it are a wear item, but it seems to me that the nice, shiny remanufactured to new spec alternator shouldn't have an old under-the-hood before regulator on it. Seeing this made me wonder if the diodes, which eventually do fail after a certain amount of operating time, were replaced as well, or if they were simply tested and found to be within limits and reused. Makes me wonder what other wear/consumable parts of the unit were reused, and which ones were replaced with new components.Truck is back to normal, and I guess in the end I'm not terribly worried about the used voltage regulator I got with this unit, since I have a limited lifetime warranty with it through Advance, just like I would have with a new unit.
