This cap looks very close to the factory cap. Try buying one at the dealer at this price. This cap does have a pressure release feature "it's spring loaded!". If your coolant systems over pressurizes then it's designed to relieve pressure into the overflow tank just like the OEM cap. If your vehicle is overheating then it's probably something more serious! Don't let the other reviews deter you from buying this product. It's good quality at a great price!

Looked nothing like the picture. Instead of that nice red lettering iwth lots of info I get one thats merely stamped "16 ibs MADE IN MEXICO do not open hot". Greatly reduces appearance value if you are doing a restoration or getting a classic car look. Also, the one I bought failed to lift causing coolant to not flow to the expansion tank thus causing a severe over pressurization of the engine coolant causing damage to seals and overheating

Comments about Stant Radiator Cap:
These caps are junk. I replaced my radiator and bought a new cap at the same time. This cap does not vent pressure into the overflow tank and actually bent itself from the pressure spraying coolant all over the engine compartment. I knocked it back into shape and replaced it til I can find a parts shop that sells a better quality cap.
Seeing how antifreeze is $11 a jug your better off getting a $15 cap than buying this cheap one and having to buy more antifreeze or possibly repair parts that get destroyed by the overpressure problems.
Avoid this product at all costs.

Comments about Stant Radiator Cap:
This cap could severely damage your vehicle as stated in a review above. The cap does not release pressure and the overflow reservoir level is the same hot and cold.
This means the extreme and damaging pressure builds up in the cooling system. I wish that I had heeded the above negative review. I hope that I have not damaged my vehicle.
I'm returning it as soon as my suv cools.

Can't get the cap off!1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Instructions to remove the radiator cap: 1. Allow the engine to cool completely before attempting to remove the radiator cap. Removal of the cap on a hot engine is very dangerous as shown in the most recent National Highway Safety Administration study. 2. Push down on the cap and turn in a counterclockwise direction if its location is at the top of the radiator. The same type of cap is sometimes remotely mounted and not on the radiator at all. Push-and-turn caps are identified by their shape, which is round with a protruding ear on both sides, and by their being made of metal. 3. Turn round plastic caps counterclockwise to remove them. There is no need to push down on these caps. This type of cap is only used when the vehicle has a remote coolant reservoir and is located on the reservoir. 4. Replace push-and-turn caps in the same manner as removing them except the direction to turn is now clockwise. Be aware that these these caps have two steps and you must turn through both to properly tighten them. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.Q:

The cap that was originally on my surge tank was plastic and held PSI of 15 the mechanic replaced it with a cao that holds PSI of 16 and its metal.... Would this cause the car to start overheating????1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
No, the metal cap with PSI of 16 should work fine without causing overheating of your vehicle.Q:
could a bad cap stop the heater from heating1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
A radiator cap has several functions. (1) It keeps the cooling system sealed from outside contaminants. (2) By keeping pressure on the cooling system, it raises the boiling point. (3) The radiator cap allows coolant to go to the expansion recovery tank when coolant gets hot, expands, and pressures increase. (4) As the system cools down, it allows coolant to return to the engine from the expansion recovery tank. A bad radiator cap can cause the engine to overheat at lower temperatures. This will cause the coolant to boil over to the expansion tank. A radiator cap that is faulty could also prevent coolant from returning to the engine. This would create a vacuum and cause the radiator hoses to collapse.Q:
do caps go bad,thanks1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
It is recommended to replace the radiator cap while the radiator is replaced.
