I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire and showing a code po742 torgue converter circuit stuck on. I think I need a TCC Solenoid and i do not know where it is located on the transmission the Haynes manual does not tell me where this is located.
Asked on 9/15/2012 by Greg from Washington county Maryland

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The TCC solenoid on your 1999 Pontiac Sunbird should be located behind the driver's side wheel. The internal transmission problems can also cause this po742 code. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

I am wanting to change out the Transmission Control Solenoid on my 1994 Chevrolet Corsica...with 2.2 engine. Can you give me instructions to do this. Is this what probably needs changed when the car does not want to downshift to a lower gear when you slow down to turn or stop at a stop light...actually kills the engine...will restart fine but once put in gear sounds like you are trying to take off in third gear or something...
