          My car (a 95 mercury tracer 1.9 auto) will shift fine, however it starts off in 1st then shifts to 3rd. It skips 2nd and won't shift into overdrive. The trans does not slip or anything weird. Could it be the neutral safety switch on top of the trans, where the shifting linkage is?

          I had a problem with shifter, i could go through all the gears without pushing the shift button, theres this micro swith thats engaged when putting in park. it didnt engage until i used a screwdriver to lift the lever that engages the micro switch. is this connected to the neutral switch. i had to do that to take out the key

          my car sometimes starts fine, but sometimes the starter gear only hit the flywheel and does not turn as if the transmission is locked. brand new starter, brand new battery.

          could it be the safety neutral switch????

          I lost brake pressure and had to shift the car into reverse then park to keep from hitting the garage door.
          Car was running fine after I got it stopped.
          I turned it off to clean-up then tried to start it and it would trun over but would not start.
          Could I have damaged the Neutral safety switch?

            This is mounted on the top of the transmission under the air box on the shift linkage arm.
