Q:
in terms of troubleshooting an intermittent starting problem, how would I determine if the starter or the relay is at fault other than bringing the existing starter in to be tested?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
It would be reasonable that the starter motor or starter solenoid could be the source. Although it does not rule out an ignition switch. If rapid clicks, starter gear probably not fully engaging with flywheel due to insufficient current. This is caused by not enough power reaching the starter solenoid to make it engage the starter motor. This could be a weak battery, worn ignition switch contacts, loose wire connection, a wire that has developed high resistance or become frayed or worn out, worn starter solenoid and on newer models an ignition relay. It could also be a bad battery connection. Check the battery cables for tightness and sometimes corrosion.Q:
