Make sure you read the install instructions, or better yet, watch a you tube video on it. Getting the correct spacing by shimming the clutch is very important.

Comments about Factory Air Air Conditioning Clutch:

Good product to replace original. But very difficult to install in a 97 windstar van. Had to pull alt. power steering pump. Bracket. Then pull the compressor. Lines were flexible enough to pull compressor up enough so as not to disconnect ac lines.

Comments about Factory Air Air Conditioning Clutch:

Quality affordable part easy to install. Saved me about $200 from mechanic quote. A/C much quieter now. Wished it came with the small cover plate screw and the felt washer/spacer. (I dropped mine and took awhile to find it) These two items would only be a buck or two to complete the kit.

                • Q:

What are the indicators that a clutch is failing or has failed? My A/C blows cold in short periods with no real pattern. Cold for 5-10 minutes, then hot for 10 minutes or longer. Is this indicative of a clutch failure or a refrigerant charge issue?

                    A:

The A/C compressor normally has a magnetic clutch to engage and disengage it. It should turn freely with the belt off and have virtually no resistance while you spin it. Even with the clutch engaged, you can normaly turn the compressor by hand, it may be hard to turn but it should not be so hard that you cannot turn it even slightly. If it will not move then the compressor clutch has failed and likely the compressor is damaged too. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified A/C mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

Yes, most possibly you may be in need of snap ring pliers and a puller to remove your pulley.

On some A/C compressor clutchs you do need a hub-clutch removal tool.
