      A:

The general symptoms of a bad EGR valve are rough idle, increased fuel consumption, overheating, pinging and knocking, increased emissions. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

  • Q:

I've a code for EGR Solenoid on my 1995 Nissan Maxima.
I THINK solenoid itself is OK but not 100% sure...
Can it be the EGR Valve that needs to be replaced?
    Thanks!

  • Q:

What is the main function of the egr valve?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The valve directs a small portion of exhaust gasses back into the inlet air charge and lowers the maximum temperature of the burning fuel. The valve makes sure that the EGR system is off at idle, where it would lead to erratic and loping idle, and at peak power, since adding exhaust gasses robs power from the engine.

      A:

This could be caused by a few different things, but unfortunately since we can not be there with your vehicle, we can not properly diagnose the cause. I recommend going to a local reputable shop and having them take a look at it.
