Comments about Stant Thermostat, 195 Degrees Fahrenheit:
Anyone should know if you remove a thermostat completely or, run a thermostat that allows engine to run cooler than what the factory considers as normal operating temperature and specified at 195 degrees,,, you're only letting carbon build up inside your engine which over time leads to pre-mature engine failure and Yes, we're talking about internal engine damage when the carbon build-up leads to damaged piston rings and you start seeing blue smoke coming out the exhaust pipe because you're burning oil. This thermostat is operable as for opening but does NOT allow the water temp./engine to reach 195 degrees specified by manufacturer as "Normal Operating Temperature". I put this 195 degree thermostat in my Chev, C-3500 truck, 454 engine and it would never run over 155/160 degrees. A lot of drivers think the thermostants only purpose is for the warmth that comes through the interior vents during the winter months but need to realize too that thermostat should also let engine reach and run at the manufacturer specifed temp, NO, I would NOT recommend this thermostat!!!!!

Comments about Stant Thermostat, 195 Degrees Fahrenheit:
This thermostat opens at the right temperature but once open allows the engine to operate too cool for ECM tolerances and sets an error code.
Save yourself time and money and buy the more expensive one

Comments about Stant Thermostat, 195 Degrees Fahrenheit:
This cheap kickoff of the premium part is a waste of money. When the engine comes to temperature it opens the way that it should. The problem is that from that point on it does not close when the engine temperature starts to run cooler than it is suppose to. Invest the extra $4 for the premium part so you don't have this problem.

The catalog does not indicate the need for a seal or gasket. Appears to be well built.

Replacing the thermostat is actually quite easy. The hard part on most vehicles is accessing the thermostat because on some vehicles many other parts need to be removed to reach the thermostat. For the best help with your “Do it yourself” project, I recommend visiting your local Advance Auto Parts store and picking up the Haynes repair manual for your vehicle if applicable. These manuals you give step by step instructions on numerous services for the specific vehicle and the tools needed. While in the store, feel free to speak with an Advance Auto Parts representative there in the store for helpful hints and information as well.
