In order to remove from the vehicle the pulley had to be removed first. Advance provided a good tool, but w limited space and rusted on pulley it would not come off. A new pulley sold for $17, so after 2 hours of trying I took the easy way out and broke off the plastic pulley.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump with Reservoir - Remanufactured:

Had to replace the power steering pump, pulleys, lines and belt on my vehicle. Repairs were done on 10/9/14. Drove vehicle almost 800 miles and on 11/19/14, the bearing went out on the pump causing the belt to freeze up and break the pulley. Had to have vehicle towed to mechanic shop for warranty repairs. The replacement pump is noisy when turning in either direction. Hoping noise will at least quiet down some once all the air pockets are bled out. Had to rely on someone to take me to and from work while vehicle was in shop for repairs. Tried replacing with a new power steering pump and was told they don't make a new one even though we could give them a part number for one.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump with Reservoir - Remanufactured:

Is nice that this already has the tank attached, but you will need a special tool to remove your pulley from your old pump and to install it on the new pump. Once I installed this pump it worked fine, but has a little whine to it, especially when turning the wheel in either direction. So far so good though, the whine hasn't gotten any worse after several hundred miles on it and really isn't noticeable with the hood closed. Only time will tell, but I think next time I'll buy NEW instead.

This pump did fix the problem I had with my old pump. I bought this pump with the resevoir because I thought I had to. We ended up having to swap almost all of the parts from the old pump over to this new one. It was almost like building your own power steering pump by the time we were done. You need a pulley install/removal too also. We broke the pulley trying take parts off and had to go buy a new one, which then required the pulley tool. Maybe it's normal to have to swap most of the parts from the old part to the new, but we had to swap over half of the parts. It may have been easier to buy one without the resevoir. Overall, the new pump worked though, which is what matters the most. It was just a hard job unless you have some experience and the right tools. It isn't just a part you can remove the old one and plug this one in. At least not with the 2000 Grand Am.

I am not impressed with this product. It is just barely better than the worn out one I took off. After 2 weeks it is noisy. it is louder than the engine. I plan to run it for 30 days, if it does quiet down I will return for replacement, but will probably pay for a higher price part. Very discouraging.

Fenco Remanufactured Steering Pumps are designed to provide power steering fluid under pressure to the power steering gear or the power assisted rack and pinion. These pumps include a shaft O.D. RMS finish, seal surfaces, and proprietary re-finishing of all CAM surfaces - all of which eliminate and prevent commonly heard noise and squealing.

From the illustration it looks like the cheaper pump is pump only so you would have to reuse your existing fluid reservoir but the more expensive pump has it already installed.
