The Curt weight distribution hitch gets high marks for setup, performance and price. First the price at AA was better than all after coupon and free shipping. I 17300 model. After delivery I spent 1.5 to 2 hours checking parts and assembling. Some parts must assembled loosely unit actual setup with the tow vehicle and trailer. The manual included was clear about the process and it probably took about another half hour to complete that part of the assembly. I should note (as does the AA website) that the trailer ball is not included. I need a 2" ball and had to take it to a garage to get the the torque needed to put it on the receiver.
I will say after this initial setup the hitch can be put on in several minutes and taken off even faster. Also make sure you grease the the pins on the bars where they insert into the head. Some people don't - such as my brother's father-in-law - a the pin will wear significantly in just several trips. After two trips mine have barely worn anty paint off the ends. Apparently almost grease will do, but I am using lithium grease in a spray can. Easier application for someone lazy like me and cleaner.
We are using the hitch to tow a 3000# RV with minivan rated for 3500# max towing capacity. We pack light and because of this have kept our weight under 3300#. Still this means we cannot load the van to it maximum because we will exceed the combine weight rating of the vehicle. Please check these yourself to assure you do not exceed the trailer, vehicle or combined vehicle and trailer ratings. Altitude and other factors will lower ratings. Also over 3000# in Wisconsin requires some type of trailer brakes.
So far we have used it twice. Both trips 125 each way. The very first time I towed through sun and light rain for most of the trip with now problem. The last 20 miles the intermittant rain became a gusty storm. Despite the heavy rain and gusts I still felt completely compfortable towing. The only nod to driving being the van obviously worked harder to take off. Once moving it was fairly smooth and absolutely no swaying. The trailer stayed our lane. In fact it appeared so easy that my control freak wife who always has to drive, but was terrified of towing, decided to try it. Well, now I am relegated back to the shotgun seat as she felt completely at ease.
Once again I will say check your weights and weight ratings before ordering to be sure if you need a lighter or heavier system. This one has worked great for us so far. One other plus is the hitch is made right here in Wisconsin.
