            The Thermostat will sit in the your vehicle the same way it is pictured. The spring part should be at the bottom.

            The bigger end with the spring goes into the block and the short end always go towards the housing and if it didnt have one theres a chance it might have a head problem the reason its out just incase keep ab eye on it
