Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
BMW has discontinued the mechanical tensioner and went with the hydraulic type instead. However, after getting 150,000 miles out of my mechanical tensioner, I decided to replace it with another one, which BMW no longer sell. When I compared this with the original BMW tensioner, it was the exactly the same; down to the manufacturing stamp. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Q:
My car is a 2001 BMW 330ci (with M54B30 engine). I purchased this part to replace my factory installed hydraulic accessory belt tensioner, which had failed. This new one did NOT fit! I had to remove the idler pulley (the one between the alternator and water pump) and go with a shorter belt to get everything to fit decently. This new tensioner is not mounted using the intended holes. Can you please tell my why this part (which was suggested to me by an Advance Auto Parts employee) does not fit correctly, and please help me find the correct solution for this?1 answer
